Introduction

This document describes the Attributes section, giving detailed information about the attribute types and the steps required for creating new attributes.

Overview

Attributes are characteristics defining the product. By assigning a suitable set of properties and attribute groups to the products, you enable buyers to find, compare, and choose products based on their color, size, material, design, quality, etc. Additionally, attributes help you make informed decisions by observing the consumers' behavior and analyzing which product variants have faster sales and more demand.

Attributes Board

The Attributes Board displays the list of existing Attributes indicating their name, type, and the property of being configurable. To edit or delete an already created attribute, hover over an attribute from the list and use the Dotted Menu.

The board also comprises:

+ New Attribute Button - adds a new attribute based on provided data.
Search Bar - searches for the relevant attributes.
Filter Button - helps display only the attributes of the preferred type out of the existing ones.
Sort by Button - sorts the attributes according to the preferred alphabetical order or creation status.

Attribute Types

To provide specific information about your product, you can create attributes of various types: Checkbox, Text, Selection, Multiselection, Boolean, Date and Time, Date, and File. Each attribute type has configs typical to it. All the types that have the Configurable Attribute config create product variants. The other types that do not have the property of being configurable provide product specifications and describe them without making any variants.

It is possible to activate the necessary configs available for the given attribute type with the help of toggles. The list of all the existing configs is as follows:

Unique
Translatable
Filterable
Comparable Attribute
Configurable Attribute

Checkbox

The checkbox enables the creation of different attribute options, and the users can select one or more options on a list.

The available configs for this type are Required, Filterable, and Comparable Attribute.

Text

You can add product descriptions or other texts with this attribute type. It comprises a drop-down list of alternatives in its optional validation field, which includes the following options: No Validation, Number, Email, Decimal, and URL.

The available configs for this type are Required, Unique, and Translatable.

Selection

This attribute type allows creating options using different swatch types: Image Swatch, Color Swatch, Dropdown, and Text Swatch. These swatch types permit the user to choose the necessary product variant.

The available configs for this type are Required, Filterable, Comparable Attribute, and Configurable Attribute.

Multiselection

This attribute type allows the creation of several options for a product. Thus the user can select multiple values for the same item.

The available configs for this type are Required, Filterable, and Comparable Attribute.

Boolean

This attribute type allows the creation of only true and false values. It helps the users to find relevant products more quickly, reducing the number of products in the search results.

The available configs for this type are Required, Filterable, and Comparable Attribute.

Date and Time

You can use this attribute type when you want to provide, for example, the date and time of product manufacturing or launch.

The available configs for this type are Required and Unique.

Date

Use this attribute type to mention any date specific to the product.

The available configs for this type are Required and Unique.

File

This type of attribute enables attaching product documents.

The available configs for this type are Required and Unique.

How to Create a New Attribute

To create a new attribute, take the following steps:

Click the +New Attribute button.
Fill the attribute name in.
Select the attribute type from the drop-down list.
Create appropriate options, if required.
Activate the necessary configs.
Click the Save button.

Use the attributes to create product families and product variants.
